HOW IT ALL STARTED
The Leatherneck Motorcycle Club was founded by several Marines with a passion for motorcycles and a bond matched by no other branch of the military. Our founders recognized the brotherhood of the Corps. Our members join because of this camaraderie and the loyalty to each other first experienced in Parris Island or San Diego. Our roots date back to the founding of the Leatherneck Motorcycle Club International, “LMCI”. One of our early founders, “Sled”, had been riding with LMCI since October 2000 and assembled a group of Marines in New Jersey. This resulted in the New Jersey chapter, “Devil Dog” chapter of LMCI receiving its charter in August 2006. They existed for nearly two years until 18 May 2008 when the Devil Dog held its’s last official meeting as part of LMCI. Brothers at the time included: Sled, Moose, Ghost, Esquire, Spuds, Tigger, Taps, Buck, Don, Doc. B, and Ack
On 24 May 2008, LMCI hosted their national meeting in Quantico, VA, coinciding with Rolling Thunder “Ride for Freedom” in Washington DC. It was at this meeting when the Northeast region of LMCI collectively declared its independence from the organization. Following this meeting, on 21 June 2008, the New Jersey crew held an emergency meeting to discuss its affiliation with a broader organization. Members including: Sled, Spuds, Tigger, Taps, Esquire, Buck, Ghost, Moose, AdRock made the unanimous decision to break its ties with LMCI as well. The official announcement comes several months later on 21 September 2008 via an email from Sled. During the second half of 2008, the northeast region commenced discussions regarding the organizational structure of the new organization. As 2008 closed, local members including: Sled, Tigger, Taps, Esquire, Ghost, Bone Crusher (now “Crusher”), Adrock worked with the other chapters to establish the new guiding principles.
